Wastewater treatment plant and lift station upgrades to increase capacity, improve reliability, and achieve regulatory compliance.

Undertaken as a pivotal infrastructure endeavor, the Main Wastewater Treatment Plant and Main Outfall Lift Station Upgrades aimed to address the aging and failing structures of the existing wastewater treatment plant and lift station. This comprehensive project included the reconstruction of various components such as effluent pump stations, headworks, primary clarifiers, aeration basins, and trickling filters. Additionally, the lift station underwent major reconstruction, involving the replacement of pumps, piping, valves, electrical systems, and modifications to the wet well. The project also allowed for the additional construction of a 4,100-foot force main and the design of a temporary bypass pumping system to maintain operations during upgrades. The upgrades were imperative to provide a firm pumping capacity of 45-MGD and bring the system into compliance with current environmental regulations enforced by the TCEQ.

The project’s successful implementation, following a challenging 8-year process of planning, engineering, and funding acquisition, garnered significant acclaim, shining a spotlight on the city’s dedication to modernizing crucial infrastructure and meeting rigorous environmental standards. This extensive endeavor exemplifies the proactive approach necessary for sustainable wastewater management practices, ensuring the system’s capacity to meet future demands while complying with evolving regulations. By reconstructing and adding key components of the wastewater treatment plant and main outfall lift station, the project not only enhances operational efficiency but also establishes a foundation for long-term environmental stewardship and resiliency.
