Emergency replacement of 42-inch force main for Port Arthur Main Outfall Lift Station.
Following the collapse of an existing force main during construction, the City of Port Arthur relied on costly temporary pumps, severely impacting 60% of the city’s sanitary sewer system. AWC implemented an emergency repair plan, replacing 4,286 linear feet of 42-inch Class-150 ductile iron force main. To expedite the process and minimize downtime, the project was executed under a design-build contract approach. Navigating a congested right-of-way with existing sewer lines, force mains, water lines, and potential encroachment from a new hurricane protection levee required meticulous coordination with the drainage district and city utility departments.
Despite these challenges, AWC completed 90% of the plans in just three weeks, demonstrating expertise, dedication, and efficiency in restoring essential services.
