City of Port Arthur Water Distribution Line Improvements

The water distribution improvement project plans to resolve a critical infrastructure issue by replacing 57 aging and deteriorated water distribution lines for the City of Port Arthur. This initiative aims to boost overall water system pressures, reduce water losses, and enhance water supply reliability for residents and industrial users. The project’s extensive planning phase involved creating a priority list of problematic lines, assessing demands, and coordinating closely with the Water Utilities Department for line location and identification. The TWDB’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, coupled with contributions from the City’s grant matching program, provides the grant funds necessary funding for this substantial project. The project represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen the City’s water distribution system, ensuring a more reliable and efficient supply for its residents and industries, with more than 210 pages of engineering design sheets generated thus far.

The City of Port Arthur Water Line Improvements project has spanned over five years, encompassing planning, acquisition, design, and construction planning phases, demonstrating the complexity of the project and the City’s long-term commitment to enhancing infrastructure. During this extensive time frame, the project has produced plans to replace a remarkable 57 aging water distribution lines, totaling 127,700 linear feet, while also installing 730 gate valves and 275 fire hydrants. This substantial endeavor not only addresses the critical issue of leaks and low water pressure but also provides fire safety for nearby residents and businesses, as well as forethought for future repairs of the system itself with the introduction of many new gate valves, taking a large step forward in modernizing Port Arthur’s vital water distribution system.
