City of Orange Waterfront Boardwalk and Pavilion

The City of Orange Waterfront Boardwalk & Pavilion project, situated along the Sabine River in Orange, Texas, epitomizes a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics. Spearheaded with the primary goal of enhancing the community’s quality of life, the project set out to beautify and restore the waterfront area, transforming it into a vibrant hub for leisure activities and outdoor entertainment events. Spanning 1600 feet of concrete-capped sheet pile wall and approximately 1800 feet of massaranduba wooden boardwalk, the attention to detail and carefully selected construction materials ensure the longevity and resilience of the public infrastructure in the face of strong weather and proximity to the river.
At its core, this project sought to improve the livability of downtown Orange, offering solutions that not only improved drainage systems but also provided a much-needed space for recreation and relaxation along the riverfront.
By integrating green spaces, concrete areas, expansive boardwalks, and a distinctive kite-shaped pavilion structure, the project not only resolved existing drainage issues in the area but also elevated the city’s urban landscape, setting a new standard for waterfront revitalization projects. Notably, the utilization of African massaranduba, a wood with an installation longevity of nearly 100-years and a burn rating equal to that of concrete, underscores the commitment to sustainable design practices, promising an enduring legacy for generations to come.
